First Round of Polio campaign Flag-off, Feb 2020 at Mayanchi, Maru LGA

The Zamfara State Deputy Governor Barrister Mahadi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau led the 2020 first phase of the Immunization Plus Days Campaign today, there was no report of  Wild Polio Virus WPV in the State since June 2012. The Campaign which was flagged-off in Mayanchi district of Maru Local Government area is expected to get one point nine million under-five children vaccinated. Speaking while flagging the exercise Barrister Mahadi Aliyu who doubled up as Chairman State Task Force Committee on Polio Eradication said the present administration of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawallen Maradun will commit sufficient human material resources required to further motivate State Local Government staff Community members to end polio transmission.The Deputy Governor said the State is focusing on the people living in the rural areas the vulnerable population with emphasis on children from birth to eleven months of age in collaboration with partners to ensure they are reached with needed health care services.Barrister Mahadi who expressed hope that Women children in the State would no more be dieing needlessly from any vaccine preventable disease also appreciated the contribution of partners notably WHO, UNICEF, CDC – Afenet, New Incentives, Rotary International Red Cross for supporting the health sector of the State.In a remarks, the State Commissioner Ministry of Health Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad Kanoma represented Permanent Secretary said Zamfara is presently well positioned to recieve the African regional certification Committee on behalf of the North-Western zone signifying the total interruption of Polio virus.He called on all sundry to join hs with stakeholders in order to persue proactive steps in high low level advocacy to eradicate the wild polio virus from the State, country across the globe.The Commissioner said the vaccination is free the vaccine is harmless to children it provides the necessary immunity to ensure that they do not end up with deformities in their lives. He enjoined the local government council chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, caregivers, various unions to lend their support to the final onslaught against Polio. In his message Maru Local Government Council chairman Alhaji Salisu Isah Dangulbi said his Council had made adequate arrangements to ensure that every child is immunized in the campaign. Emir of Maru Banaga Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari presented a goodwill message on behalf of traditional rulers development partners at the occasion. In a vote of thanks Executive Secretary Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board Alhaji Yusuf A Musa Mafara said the Polio campaign for this round is to be implemented on house to house basis for from 15th to 18th February. According to him, the Board is implementing new innovative tactics to ensure every last child is protected with the Polio vaccine, hence the need for a renewed political financial commitment from government. The Executive Secretary called on parents caregivers to avail their children the right to be immunized making them available to vaccinators during the exercise. While appreciating the contributions of the State Governor Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawallen Maradun the Executive Secretary also underscored the effort of Maru Local Government Council chairman in the provision of motorcycles to health workers advised him to keep up the good track.
